Tennis Match

---

Here are some pictures from a recent JV tennis match. K and his partner fought the other team down to the wire, but lost the tiebreaker after each team won a set.

Interlochen

---

M leads the seniors at the marching demonstration.
He is this year's Drum Major.

The boys got back from Interlochen a few days ago. Here are a couple pictures. M is the incoming Drum Major, and K is playing in the Symphony Orchestra this year. They've both done some pretty outstanding work!

M walking onto stage for the band concert. It was
not going to be made public until that evening,
but the boy behind M was voted by his bandmates as
the 2018-2019 school year's Drum Major.

and 11 DMCs (Drum Major Candidates) are introduced to attendees of
the marching demonstration.

Frankfort 2017 Pictures

---

I have a lot of lighthouse pictures, and lots of sunsets, too. Here are some of my favorites from Frankfort, MI, in July of 2017. Click on the pictures to make them bigger.

Somewhere over the lighthouse, bluebirds sing.

Frankfort's famous Sunset Drive-In.

This boat appeared to be constructed of all metal.

The storm is rolling in...

The storm is REALLY rolling in. Note the
lighthouse in the bottom left corner of the picture.

Meanwhile, in better weather at the mini-golf course,
M and K hit the links with long-time family
friends H and R. We've been vacationing with their
family most of the last 10 years.

The sky glows at sunset near the pier.

Our best, and orange-est sunset.

Fourth of July Parade

---
Ann Arbor's Fourth of July Parade

I don't remember the LGBT community kicking off the
parade when I was younger - things are changing...

Bagpipes!

US Representative Debbie Dingell wears heels when she walks in
the parade. She doesn't mess around.

These two guys played some sax music for the crowd.
We were not sure whether they were actually supposed to be part of the parade...

It's not Chinese New Year, but I can't think of a
reason to not have a dragon.

This is the Backyard Brains group (motto: "Neuroscience for Everyone").
It is at least for everyone who has a crazy hat.

The little girls in the matching dresses are cheering
because this is the only high school music group in the
parade - the Huron High School Drum Line.

The Synchronized Lawn Mower Team

A few of the members of the Pioneer High School robotics
team show off one of their creations.

Frogs I Have Known

---

This year's Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad (WESO) is in the books. We had over 2,200 students this year, up from last year. They represented 41 Washtenaw County schools.

Here are some photo slideshows and articles:

Shifting gears to non-Science Olympiad photographic subjects, here are pictures of some frogs that hang out around our house. Click on them to see them in a larger view.

Family Update

Visiting Ones Childhood Home
Mom, Dad, and the kids

We had a rare family reunion on Thursday in Jackson. Usually, one of us kids is home, or maybe we have our families with us. But to have the Original Bruey Five together in one place? Priceless!

Some Musical Stylings

K and his fellow violins play the ancient
piece Too Ning.

M and the Jazz Band jazz it up in their
final performance of the season.

A Few Pictures From The Great Outdoors

The bee isn't really in focus, but his shadow looks pretty cool.

Baby swans! Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww...

On the topic of photography, what happens when you x-ray cameras? This guy found out.

Tired of carving figures and shapes into small pieces of wood? Try a whole tree.

Goings On Going On

---
The pear tree is blossoming. Spring is here!

Welcome to Spring!
I think the warm(er) weather is finally here to stay. It was in the 70s for a few days, and even though it will go back down to the 60s for a while, it's probably safe to put the snow shovels away now.

There are about 5 weeks left until Science Olympiad, which is June 3 this year. We're working hard on so many aspects of the big day, including meeting with our "key" volunteers, making signs and posters, helping organize workshops for students, and taking care of all the little things that make a big event.

I like this little knife. It's small enough that it would stay out of your way.

Why learn to play the piano when you can just buy one of these? And yes, it handles the pedals, too.

Early Christmas list (it's never too early): a 14-150 mm camera lens. But don't buy me this lens; it's not made for my camera, it's too heavy to lift, and I'd rather you gave me the money so I could pay off my mortgage. It's 28" long, so you'd need a little wheeled cart to take it with you.
